Committee on Banks

New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. is a distinguished public servant, Marine Corps veteran, and dedicated community advocate, currently serving his sixth term representing the 10th senatorial district. Since his election in 2012, Senator Sanders has been a steadfast advocate for economic development, minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs), and working-class families, consistently advancing innovative policies aimed at empowering underserved communities throughout New York.

Representing Southeast Queens, which includes neighborhoods such as Far Rockaway, Rosedale, Howard Beach, and Jamaica, Senator Sanders brings a wealth of experience from his 12 years of service on the New York City Council. During his tenure, he challenged the status quo by spearheading initiatives to combat sexual violence, authoring comprehensive anti-predatory lending legislation, and revitalizing parks and libraries.

In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Senator Sanders chairs the Senate Committee on Banks and serves on committees focused on economic development, labor, insurance, and veterans' affairs. He also holds the position of Vice President at the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL). Driven by an unwavering commitment to his constituents, Senator Sanders continues his mission to secure the necessary resources and investments to foster a stronger, more vibrant Southeast Queens.
